45 Easy Homemade Halloween Costumes
My kids came up with a big ask for Halloween this year.
My son told me he wants to be a fighter jet pilot with a real jumpsuit, pilot jacket (you know the old-school leather kind with the fur) and helmet with mask just like Maverick and Goose from Top Gun.
Not that he’s seen Top Gun, but this is basically who he’s trying to look like.
I googled, ebayed, craiglisted, and shopped around but the cheapest I could find was $54.95 for all the pieces he envisioned.
Then…
My daughter said she wants to be a unicorn, and not just any unicorn.
A full, head-to-toe fur covered unicorn with rainbow sparkling horn. And no, not just any jumpsuit off Amazon was what she had in mind.
The price tag? Unreasonable and not in our budget.
I don’t know where they got the idea I was made of money because we’ve always found our costumes at a second hand store or pre-owned off the internet, but the requests this year were not reasonable, and not cheap.
I’m not a DIYer. In fact, I’m the farthest from that. And that’s probably why I’ve always stayed away from making your own Halloween Costumes.
But this year, I’m invoking three new rules for Halloween when it comes to costumes.
- The kids have to come up with their own costumes
- They have $20 to spend for all their supplies
- It has to be homemade (no buying a full costume at the store for that amount)
- Winner gets a week off of doing their chores
Sounds pretty fun right?
Before I could let them loose at the dollar store, I had to come up with some creative, unique and most of all easy homemade Halloween costumes they can create on their own, without a needle and thread or materials like super glue or glitter.
I was surprised at all the searches I came up with for crafty, and amazing looking homemade halloween costumes the average person can pull together easily and quickly.
I’ve put together a list of my favorite (and their favorite) homemade halloween costumes. I hope you find some good ideas for your little trick or treaters this year!
